PROJECT 2: The Astonomer by Vemeer - Plans & Section Drawings
Section B
In the section, I have tried to distinguish the difference in height in each floor to reinforce my take on the painting.
UNKNOWING The Ground Floor I have given it a high ceiling level, as to communicate the amount of knowledge that the person is exposed to, and with very little light entering that space also giving the sense that the knowledge is still unknown, or un-discovered.
SOLITUDE The First Floor I have given it a low ceiling level, as to communicate the hardships and the challenges which is involved in undertaking the persons expansion in knowledge that he seeks. And again with the play of like on this level with a little bit more like indicating that he has progressed in expanding his knowledge.
ENLIGHTENMENT The Second Floor, The sloping of the ceiling pointing skyward and the large opening provided by the skylight indicates allowing light to flood this floor indicates that the person has achieved enlightenment.
JOURNEY The Stairs are his journeys he makes as he progress from the different stages in his discoveries.
INDICATOR The Book shelves also is a indicator that his knowledge beginning with lots of information that may not be relevant to him to slowly getting smaller indicating that as he progress up, the person is able to identify what knowledge he wants to gain to achieve enlightenment.
